Also some of us are raising small offspring and if we have to pay for travel + use PTO + find childcare + rearrange family schedules, it’s not worth the ROI.https://twitter.com/kamcmahon/status/966394651463864321 …

.@gadgetsquirrel true. There are conferences that have funding to help people travel to the event and also have on-site child care. Some of the @linuxfoundation events I've been attending have those items. As for the PTO and family schedules - can't help you there...
A great option for parents who need but I like to keep my con and mom hat separate but prefer to leave kiddos at home. As women are generally underpaid as well, mentioning PTO and additional cost of childcare is a challenge that needs to be recognized.
Agree! Some conferences don't charge for child care. The other one that I was volunteering for offered child care for $6 an hour. I thought it was stupid - who has the money to pay for child care at home and while at the conference?!
Some conferences make great efforts such as offering lactation/nursing rooms - would be even more awesome if it was a room that live streamed keynotes so attendees wouldn’t have to miss.
That is a GREAT idea! @linuxfoundation @Supercomputing ;)
