Well thats obviously not optimal at all. Can you create a bug report on it? Also please note if this was a fresh VM you downloaded from the release, one you upgraded, etc. As its virtual box, your host hardware would be useful in the report as well. We will dig into this.

It’s a cool idea. I like it. Putting resources into it, I dunno. But will keep it in mind. We have a ton planned going into the next year. FWIW our git repo is open and we would welcome a contribution like that.

with the new public packages, is it now also possible for package maintainers of tools already included in kali to get access to the repos to release new versions on theirselves?

At this point we are still going to approve all changes. However, you can submit change requests for all the packages. So the intent is that tool maintainers will be able to submit off change requests whenever they like, and we can streamline the approval and update.
