#MedievalTwitter has been clarifying @ the continued white privilege (often senior research) to actually see from the point of view of jr. folks, women, BIPOC, etc. So, "Nice, Decent Folks" doesn't mean they are not racist, sexist, or white supremacist:http://www.kellyjbaker.com/nice-decent-folks/ …

and as the fascists/white supremacists on here want to use what Guy is saying as fodder for their digital white supremacy on other platforms to reify their Make the Middle Ages white again, you have to consider what he's doing that makes it so easy to use him as scholarly backup.

Also, you & other white apologists are trying to say b/c Guy is "progressive" he can't be racist, sexist, etc. Wrong. Racism is structural. So is sexism. This is not about individual personality traits, or "niceness," it's @ how people address structures.

Guy addresses these structures as if he has the privilege & wherewithal to punch back b/c he is being critiqued for doing/saying something that shows his racism, sexism etc. So do tell us how "twat, stupid, imperialist" is "progressive." Waiting.

Or that's fine b/c it's directed at non-white medievalists, even when we are not talking @ him. Explain how not sexist, racist he is, let alone how white scholars wants to condone such sexist, racist behavior. You are supporting racism, sexism, punching down

#MedievalTwitter what kind of message are you sending to your colleagues, your students, the field that it's perfectly fine for Guy to call medievalists of color racist/sexist/ableist names "twat, stupid, imperialist" even when in the case of 2 of these incidents, neither of us1 reply 1 retweet 12 likes -

#MedievalTwitter were discussing him or replying to him. Instead, it's just fine for him to show his total racist, sexist, ableist self in randomly making inexcusable comments to colleagues & grads. b/c this is how medieval studies should function?1 reply 0 retweets 11 likes -

This is the heart of UK higher ed "civility" (from the genealogy of that terrible word) to force scholars of color to conform to white supremacy. To "civilize" them by demanding they behave vis-a-vis this racist, sexist, ableist abuse.

Why is defending his "progressive" image more vital than addressing the real issue in early medieval & medieval studies in general--the white supremacy, the white supremacists, the fascists, nazis who are using so many white scholars as their propaganda props?

Even if this is a pure coincidence it backfired. It's not that difficult to just own your own words and say you will try to do better and yet apparently it is too difficult.

The characterization of their critics as a ravenous mob when a number of those critics are BIPOC has some major racist undertones, overtones, and all kind of tones. These criticisms were not attacks.

These men & their defenders find any reason why people shouldn't speak up: too loud, too hostile, not accomplished enough to criticize men with long lists of publications. When the safety and place in the field of our BIPOC colleagues is at stake, we care what you do and say now.
