Totally embrace kat's view on this. In fact if you know of a similarly oriented therapist in the Chicago area please get at me. Simultaneously I realize that doctors are bastards who view experience of pain in terms coded by race & class and also that Vox is trash.

Last time they tried to ply me with the mindfulness instead of medicine the swelling didn't go down AT ALL.

Since mindfulness is, in part, being aware of one's own body... how does a person LESSEN pain by focusing on it MORE? That isn't logical.

Buddhism makes the distinction between pain and suffering. Pain is inevitable, but you can reduce how much you suffer because of it. Which I agree with for certain cases, but I don't think that was ever intended to be the *only treatment* for *chronic* pain.

NEVER said context is not important. Definitely am not undermining the importance of appropriate medication. Am just sticking up for acceptance because as a therapy it is NOT about sucking it up. That is my main concern. That and unethical advertising to make rich people more $.

You were doing well until you mentioned opioid dependence. Yes, pain acceptance can reduce stress during pain by accepting that pain levels will never be at zero & the constant search for relief is reduced.
