I’m looking for speaking engagements for 2020. Conference talks? Workshops? Internal presentations? Trainings? All yes! Topics include F# and FP, developer experience and tooling, or varius topics related to OSS and its sustainability

Let alone the time it takes to travel. I am a freelancer, which means that speaking at a conference or event that involves travel days, costs me 2 to 3 days of income.

Charging 2k for a ticket but can’t pay travel costs… lol.

Not the fan of 0.5 - iPhone 1x is already too wide for my liking. But let’s play with it.

"DDC - .NET Developer Conference 2020" not paying travel costs. So that's an automatic nope.

And you can eat as a speaker and you'll have one free hotel night per lecture as stated in > Further Benefits This is not a benefit. It's addressing basic needs of a speaker.

P.S. yes there exist smaller community driven conferences that just can’t afford paying for T&A - it’s fine, but it shouldn’t stop you from trying. Anyway, this thread was mostly about big, clearly commercial events that doesn’t behave fair.

But we can change this only by our (speakers and attendees) actions. As speakers we should demand covering all costs, and fees for speaking. As attendees we should support those conferences that treat their speakers fair. Please consider doing that. 4/4

And inb4 anyone mentions it - working “for exposure” is toxic practice in any other industry, not sure how this happened to be acceptable practice on software development conferences. It’s just wrong - doing work should be paid. 3/n

And it’s not about time spent at the event - that’s fun part; but about countless hours ever speaker spends on preparing and practicing the talk. This effort should be valued by organizers, not exploited. 2/n

It’s 2020. The fact that we as dev community still give free pass to events that exploit speakers like that. Public speaking at the conference is hard WORK. It requires skill, knowledge and what’s most important time. 1/n

Wow. This is simultaneously the worse idea ever and the best Defcon contest ever. Morning session- who can hack the stroller and kill the baby (sensor package) first. Afternoon session- who can hack the stroller, abduct a "baby" and successfully retrieve a bitcoin ransom.
