To pay for it, taxes could be increased or the deficit increased. My bet would be the latter since that’s the way this government is leaning. The children “benefitting” from this will h@ve to pay it back with interest down the road.

When the benefit was introduced in 2015 the same child got $533 four years later they get $553 a twenty dollar increase The Bank of Canada inflation calculator shows the increase to be forty dollars a month just to keep pace with the rate of inflation. What if you’re middle/lower class with no children? Mid 40’s, divorced with no dependants. Maybe this bracket (larger than you think)could pay less tax so as to not burden the system at retirement? RSP’s aren’t an option at this income level. Oh...I still pay school taxes?!?!
