The murder rate in Denmark is 277 times less than the US, showing that while you can’t prevent every murder, you can prevent most with effective gun control laws.

Do you speak Turkish and live in London? I'm organising a workshop to train Turkish speakers to edit Wikipedia even though it's blocked in Turkey. Now more than ever, Turkish people need to access independent media. Let me know if you want to participate.

I grew up living with refugees. Two of the kids of the family who lived with us became doctors. When you thank the NHS, some of the people you thank were once refugees. Refugees are a promise of a good life, helping the country that gave them sanctuary. Stop making ppl fear them.

This is historically inaccurate for a number of reasons: a) It was originally a Hittite town. b) Cimmerians destroyed Ephesus in 650 BC, Goths destroyed it in 263 AD, then an earthquake destroyed it in 614 AD. c) When Seljuk Turks conquered Ephesus in 1090, it was a small village

Happy 21st birthday to Wikipedia, the only big website that still retains the ethos of the early internet, won't monetise your data and is run by a charity. The digital age would be at least 10% worse without you.

The right wing looks at children playing pretend and worries that it is evidence of a secret Marxist plot to trans everyone.
Telegraph article saying 'Britain's strictest headteacher' thinks that children at schools are identifying as holograms, cats and moons.

Getting social media engagement as a right wing account is so easy. You can just say 'Meghan Markle' and get 400 replies in half an hour, you almost don't have to do any work.

When they heard bananas share 40% of human DNA, banana company Bimuz thought long and hard about the theological implications. They eventually set up a sound system that blasts out the Qur’an for an hour a day to reduce the bananas’ stress. No joke.

I know a woman who runs a drag theatre group. Today she called me up to tell me that Turning Point UK are planning to protest a drag storytime event she is running next week - except the event doesn't exist, TPUK have invented it. She doesn't do drag storytime anymore.

Something very puerile and jeering about the idea that since Labour is riding high in the polls, that Owen Jones, a lifelong supporter of the party, must be super mad. It's the politics of the football match, 'your guy lost, we won!' It's actually quite pathetic.

I have been compiling a giant spreadsheet of government contracts responding to Coronavirus since the end of May, and the data available on them from the contractsfinder site is opaque and partial. The lack of transparency smells of corruption.

Of course privileged people who have never had to strike for higher wages would see strikes as 'walking out in a strop', rather than fighting for your right to a living wage.

The idea that the right to have an abortion should be 'sex based', rather than the simple fact that you are pregnant and don't want to be, is really very stupid. Abortion providers, faced with a pregnant person, aren't going to go 'ok but what sex does it say on your ID?'
