In February I had the incredible privilege of visiting a truly northern place—Gjoa Haven, NT—where I talked to people about food, community and climate. I'm ever grateful for the welcome I received and the stories people shared.

Happy International Workers' Day! Evergreen reminder most Canadian photojournalists are freelancers on the frontline of reporting without any protections from employers. No sick days, no mental health support, no insurance, no legal protection. Solidarity with workers everywhere.

📢We're going to court to defend the principle of journalistic independence.
The 's efforts to force a documentary filmmaker to turn over their interviews and source materials is a bridge too far. Enough is enough.

One of my biggest take-always from the conference was that when we show up for each other, solidarity grows. Huge thanks and appreciation to the board for not only putting up with a bunch of bratty photographers, but inviting us in to help make things better…

How to talk about #CAJ23? We are still recovering from two full days of workshops, panels, pub nights, labour organizing and awards. It's too much to unpack here, but our main takeaway is we need to work together as journalist's—across mediums, media orgs and coverage areas.

it's bad enough that the social event wasn't accessible but imagine then having to go talk in front of a crowd the very next day, for the very same conference, on accessibility/inclusivity

Journalism conferences like #CAJ23 are such a good reminder of the importance of being together -- to commiserate, celebrate, and meet those who inspire you to be better. Which is why it was devastating to show up to the bar last night to find out the party was up a set of stairs

Some may wonder why ppl on street would turn down “housing.” Older SROs are horrifying places that can drive a sane person mad. Tiny, some no windows, bugs everywhere, rats, leaking things. Doors busted, unsafe, disgusting shared bathrooms.

Here is how quick these photos have to move on a news wire. APs image was taken at 11:29 and sent over the wire at 11:36. The Reuters image was most likely taken at the same time and moved at 11:43. An AP image is front of & speed is HUGE.

I went down to check on what's happening on E. Hastings Street, where residents are worried about a leaked city plan to clear tents from the sidewalk.
Then I heard about an SRO being emptied. Sherry MacDonald has lived at the Cambie St. building for over 20 years. #DTES
