So now that @RedHatNews owns etcd, when is it going to be a @CloudNativeFdn project? @kernelcdub @BrandonPhilips

What do you expect or hope to see change with the project in CNCF vs not? Always interested to hear what people expect a foundation to do for a project. I can share the why it isn't in CNCF story but don't have the energy right now. But even if it was in nothing would change IMHO

CLAs and non vendor specific homes matter for a lot of companies. It’s often a requirement before they engage and become active contributors and maintainers.

This should be attainable either way. Personally I share this view:https://mobile.twitter.com/jessfraz/status/938491387959500803 …

Adoption is done... and now it's a critical component to an entire ecosystem of tools that folks depend on. I'm not a huge fan of "foundations", but I am intimately aware of what a neutral playground means to a broader ecosystem of tools.

indeed, the level legal playing field matters (FYI: already behind the scenes CNCF has helped push some of our members to add additional resources to etcd)

Very true. Maybe we need to look at examples. What secured the even legal playing field for the most successful Open Source project of all times - the Linux Kernel?

Linux is a bit unique but the fact that Linus and GregKH are fellows at a neutral foundation vs company helps imho (given BDFL model); LF has done a lot with legal matters along with OIN

I have my doubts about the neutrality of the Linux Foundation. Especially after they decided to get rid of personal membership. That’s my personal opinion, just to be clear.
