    Dear game leads everywhere: no one is as emotionally invested in your game as you. It sucks to hear, but please, consider that when you say players will have to figure it out... Most players won't stick around that long.

    I’m much prouder of the percentage of players who finish my games than I am of the sales numbers. The goal of challenge in a game is to keep pulling the player forward, not to stop anyone. The ideal level of difficulty is the one that carries 100% of players to the end. 6/6

    Personally, I’ve found some of my most fun playthroughs of my games during development are with cheat codes on. (Brute Shot with bottomless clip ftw) 5/6

    The different difficulty levels adjust how much of a window the game gives you to “win”, but that window is always arbitrary. There is no level of difficulty that’s more real than any other. 4/6

    For example, in shooter games the AI opponents naturally default to perfect awareness and aim when first coded. I’ve played games during points in development where the extra fuzziness hasn’t been added yet, and they’re miserable experiences. 3/6

    Games are made things, there’s no natural or default challenge to be overcome. It’s always the equivalent of your father letting you beat him at arm wrestling. The difficulty options on the menu are just choosing the point at which the game gives up. 2/6
