I'm a 🇨🇦 pdf & fellow collabing with to do macrophysiology diversity experiments; generating new data to compare physiological responses among different animals and oceans! Diversity FTW!

My sleep-patterns before and during my stint in . I've been doing the same experiments for the past 6 months with the main difference being 'structured living' on station (scheduled to the hour). Despite sleep regularity, I am more tired than back home

You know what? I'm no marine mammal biologist, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of spotting the difference between a boulder and a seal in . IT IS HARD SOMETIMES.

I'm going to try and draw a link between underwater dead pigs and sponges again for this talk...my science is like 6 degrees of Kevin "Bacon"...get it?

Let's just say one of the reasons I wanted to return to The Ice was because I didn't get to cross the circle last time. Now to spend the next decade figuring out how to expand my macrophysiology dataset to include north of the Arctic circle!

My talk for tomorrow. Alternate title considered = "The Mystery of How a Canadian Marine Biologist ended up in an Research Station". The suspense is killing me...I want to know how this story ends.

Typical Summer's day in at 67°S. Here's South Cove, . The sun is extra bright down here. Glacier-type sunnies (sunglasses) are mandatory PPE (personal protective equipment). I had to close my eyes to do the pano.

A lovely view of North Cove, in the evenings. Isn't it breathtaking? Or is that because of the elephant seals just off the screen to the left?

I've figured out a workflow to compress my videos down to something reasonable given the extreme bandwidth restrictions on station (720p, h264, <4mbps, <20s). Voila! the crabeater jiggle. Funny enough, also the technique I use to get out of bed in the mornings.

It's quite neat view to have the Dash-7 and Twin Otter aircraft zoom by outside my office here in . I'm the only Canadian scientist at station, but most of the air unit is actually from . Check out the skis on the Twin Otter landing gear!

I've been sick this week and haven't been able to followup on my checkout dive. Here are some additional shots of me (orange hood) breaking the water from that day! Photos courtesy of Simon Morley.

One reason people feel is due to fantasy hours. You tell yourself you're working but really not doing much. Real hours are a way to reduce guilt. Real = no distractions, just doing the job. 2 Real hours = 10 Fantasy hours. And less guilt.
