Jonathan Weinhagen’s posts

I’ve been reading a lot about the history of pandemics. I’ve concluded that they all begin with crisis and end with leadership. Today did what no Governor wants to do in extending #StayHomeMN. History will be kind to him. Our econonomic recovery will benefit.

If you’re a man and you haven’t asked yourself, “how often do I talk over women and what am I going to do to change that” in the past 24 hours, you’re doing it wrong.

You can disagree w/ decisions that leaders like & have made throughout this pandemic, but please don’t question the positive intent behind them. I’ve yet to encounter a leader who doesn’t prioritize public health AND the economy. It’s an impossible task.

My son Jake turns 18 this week. We’ve had him quarantined with Grandma and Grandpa to keep them all safe and healthy. We’ve been worried that COVID-19 might mean he doesn’t see his 18th birthday. You can be part of the solution. -> #StayHomeMN!

Imagine being (or at least feeling) responsible for 5,639,632* lives and 2,685,047* jobs. You’ve just imagined ’s past 9 weeks. People are dying. Businesses are dying. I remain grateful for our elected and business leaders as we navigate this pandemic. *Census Data

A FB connection posted this today: ”I myself will not comply and will not wear a mask. It's called freedom. Freedom is to chose what is best for you and not to be told by a dictator.” This is not about YOU! This is about EVERYONE ELSE, including my vulnerable son. #MaskUpMN

My special needs son has been in the ICU (not COVID related) for the past week and we are experiencing first hand the challenges our healthcare system is facing. Our doctors and nurses are HEROES! GET VACCINATED, FOLKS!

The highly infectious delta variant has emerged and seized on the vulnerabilities in Minnesota, where more than 1 million people remain unvaccinated. "This go-around, the mortality is incredibly high." strib.mn/3IHzbep

I just responded to a hateful email that attacked members of our Muslim community. I wasn’t “Minnesota Nice.” It explicitly called out and . I’d like to go on the record that I have ZERO tolerance for intolerance, which is the only intolerance I’ll tolerate.

Today we learned of a family (single mom and two kids) in the Minneapolis tent encampment who secured permanent shelter for the next year. Our boys were excited to go shopping to help outfit their apartment!

The best way to keep Minnesotans healthy and our economy open: Wear a mask -> 😷 Wash your hands -> 🧼 🖐 Stay 6 ft apart ->🧍🏻<- 6ft ->🧍🏽‍♂️ Avoid large gatherings -> 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👨‍👨‍👧‍👧👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 “The next 6 to 12 weeks are going to be critical in this fight.” -

Restaurants are short staffed. Your wait staff is doing everything they can. The kitchen is crushed and doing everything they can. Offer grace! Be kind! We get to choose the restaurant scene we want post-pandemic. It involves patience NOW!

"Mean Twitter" (which is a lot of Twitter) has asked if I have a soul. I DO. And a disabled son. And three other boys. And a wife who struggles with anorexia. I'm imperfect. My family is imperfect. I care DEEPLY about them AND our region. That is all.

Slow service at a restaurant? BE KIND! Slow service at the hospital or clinic? BE KIND! Slow service at the grocery check-out? BE KIND! Slow service waiting for a customer service rep by phone? BE KIND! Get the point? BE KIND! BE KIND! BE KIND!

Today I filed to run for re-election to the School Board. No photo op. No launch party. No glamour. After all, this isn’t always (or ever 😄) glamorous work! It is, however, some of the most important work that I have the privilege to do. Cheers!

I’m interviewing communications candidates today. The most important question is, “how many spaces after a period and why is it one?,” right?! Maybe I’ll throw in something about a new default font since upended my morning with the Calibri news!

It’s Friday afternoon. It’s beautiful outside in MN ☀️😎! In newsrooms all over the state there is a reporter, a researcher, an editor, a publisher & countless others working to validate and produce credible content. Thank them by SUBSCRIBING to their publication! That is all.

If u advocate for housing w/o advocating for transit, you’re doing it wrong. If u advocate for workforce w/o advocating for housing, you’re doing it wrong. If u advocate for transit w/o advocating for workforce, you’re doing it wrong. They’re all connected! #mnleg

Tonight one of my kids told me about their “safety check” at school. It involved “hiding” and “staying very quiet.” Is this what we want for OUR kids? It’s time to get serious about sensible gun safety laws. TY for championing this effort! #mnleg

When did whether or not someone shoveled their sidewalk become news? I’m okay with the fact that @lisabendermpls was too busy tending to business at City Hall (while being a ROCKSTAR mom) to clear the sidewalk. That is all.

I'm disappointed by the resignation of as Commissioner. We encourage corporate leaders to step into public service and they become the target of a divided legislature after a special session? We should do better.

I won’t lie. I’m worried. Worried about our economy. Worried about our public health. I’m also thankful. Thankful for essential workers. Thankful for the resolve of our business community. And hopeful. Hopeful for business success. Hopeful for a prosperous future.

I appreciate 's can-do attitude and optimistic approach. MN has record low unemployment, ranks at the top in job growth & is making historic investments in education while cutting taxes. Time to finish this session strong and keep MN poised for success. #MNSOTS

I’ve known since I was a kid. I graduated with his brother. We have stories. I’m proud of his work driving ’s campaign. And knowing him, I’m confident this is unsolicited (but well-deserved) coverage of his leadership.

You know the “Do you want to send this message without a subject” warning? I think we need a “Do you REALLY need to ‘reply all’ to this message” warning! Who’s with me?

Today’s news from Target wasn’t a surprise, nor a cause for concern. Orgs that want to be an “employer of choice” need to offer more flexibility. It may mean they need less space. Downtowns that want to remain vibrant will need to reinvent and reinvest. We’re ready!

After much consideration, I’ve decided to give the people what they want for my 10k tweet. Enjoy this hastily photoshopped pic of @UMN_Kramer riding a squirrel at drive-thru! 🐿 🍩 (DISCLAIMER: no squirrels or leaders were harmed in the making of this tweet!)
