    Object identification exemplifies the vast privacy asymmetry that exists between users and social media companies. Users have been uploading images to FB for a decade+, most likely without the expectation that their images could ever be used this way.

    Facebook trained an algorithm using 1 billion Instagram images, proving that the algorithm doesn’t need human-labeled images to learn to accurately recognize objects. Facebook purposely excluded images from the European Union. reports:

    in 1857, in its Dred Scott decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Black people were not American citizens and could not sue in courts of law. The Court ruled against Dred Scott, an enslaved Black man who tried to sue for his freedom.
