I wonder if this will be a double-edged sword. With all hidden replies concentrated in the same space, it makes it very easy to see when an account is trying to silence dissent, and what specific points are deemed unacceptable to them.

But the replies will be at the bottom, with hundreds of replies to go through to reach the legitimate criticism, this is the actual censorship conservatives have been concern trolling about for years, but it's fine because they're the one's in control

This doesn't work on "old twitter". I tried opening a couple of those tweets in incognito mode, and the replies are not hidden that way. Seems to be only something they do with the new interface when someone is logged in.
