Since people are using it to derail, I need to acknowledge this. None of the convictions were for "rape" as far as the wording of the crime,

But was found guilty on three felonies, one of which does include the word rape and two of which are the definition of rape:

assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated or unconscious person, sexual penetration of an intoxicated person,

and sexual penetration of an unconscious person. Again, the last two of which are RAPE.

So no, I disagree that "convicted rapist" is inaccurate. And men trying to make that point in this thread are derailing rape apologists.

@justkelly_ok b/c half of your argument takes issue with the semantics of the headline, people aren't apologists for explaining its accuracy -
In several of the other headlines I posted, the word "rape" was used despite no charges having been brought.

@justkelly_ok So other publications breaking AP style means that the@washingtonpost should use stronger rhetoric? - Show more

@justkelly_ok@idlediletante@washingtonpost in most jurisdictions now, sexual assault is rape. Rape isn't really used in the statute. -
@BrianBiscieglia What's your point? I posted other examples where WaPo used the word "rape" in headlines. -
@justkelly_ok my point is saying the person sexually assaulted someone is the same as saying they raped someone. -
@BrianBiscieglia It might be factually the same in certain jurisdictions, but the rhetoric is not the same. The word "rape" has more weight. -
@justkelly_ok it might have more weight, but it doesn't have much legal meaning anymore. -
@BrianBiscieglia You are derailing. Begone from my mentions. -
@justkelly_ok wow. Whatever. -
@BrianBiscieglia The grown-ups are talking about rhetoric and portrayal of rapists in the media. Legal equivalence isn't relevant to this. - View other replies

For contrast, here's
@washingtonpost coverage of other rapes. All three headlines use the word, use mugshots.pic.twitter.com/AqBy8wgsNH

@justkelly_ok@washingtonpost Poindexter systemically raped dozens of people. SYSTEMIC RAPE. Yet you suggest it is because of racial bias? -
@LayCraft I literally provided five other examples. Nice cherry-picking! -
@justkelly_ok The evidence you used to support your point was partially misleading. That is on you not me. -
@LayCraft P.S. "Systemic" doesn't mean what you think it means. -
@justkelly_ok Systematic is what I meant.#autocorrect -
@LayCraft Autocorrect changed your use of both "systemically" and "systemic"? Weird! - Show more
