Wow, seems awfully anti-competitive that you can’t change the default browser on iOS or iPad OS.

Yeah, Apple mandates all iOS browsers use WebKit under the hood. It’s really fun - as a result, chrome/iOS and Firefox/iOS have all the same rendering bugs as safari...

yes, apple does not allow renderers other than their own. and Firefox for iOS, unlike Safari, doesn't use the API that lets you get ad-blocking, so there's no point

They say it’s for security and privacy concerns. But this is a debate people have been having for years about iOS. Personally, I just live with it. I know that’s a defeatist attitude, but I’m tired...so so tired.

That’s always an interesting angle to poke at. There are definitely cases where Apple’s anti-competitive stance works out to my benefit as a consumer of their products. There are also cases where it’s clearly detrimental.
