    this story makes me realize how much VCs : founders :: engineers : algorithms lately - paraphrasing "we set these things up to have all this power & obviously now we just have to let them do absolutely anything, whether it helps anyone or not - we're too invested to stop it".

    If you work in government you hear a lot about the lessons that need to be learned from the private sector. Much of that is justified. But even the paragons of private success have huge governance problems of their own.

    YES please! Can we dial down the false certainty and expressions of dominance that are associated with ‘successful’ and traditionally ‘male’ speech?

    One of the faulty pillars of GirlBoss feminism is “A man would never say this so neither should you.” It would actually be great if men started saying things like “no worries if not,” “sorry,” or prefacing an opinion with “I think,” b/c they have a rightful place in communication

    You can comfortably shake hands with anyone between 0.5x to 2x your height, but beyond that, it starts to get tricky. If people’s heights were in proportion to even log of their wealth, I would not be able to shake hands with Bill Gates. He’s in the 10^11 range and I’m in 10^5 🤔

    My single proudest moment in 5 years at ABC is the launch of audio described TV

    The ABC has received great feedback since launching our Audio Description service in July. Around 14 hours of AD content has broadcast on main channel, ABC NEWS, ABC Comedy, ABC ME and ABC Kids each week, covering drama, movies, documentary, current affairs, lifestyle and kids.

    This thread has a lot in it for me: ✅ obsession over non consequential things ✅ colour ✅ childhood memories. Sigh. So good.

    SO when Quake came out, it was often joked that it features 256 shades of brown. But is that right? Well, it has a known palette, and we have science... Let's find out.
