    my YNAB account tells me (and rationally, I know to be true) that this is the best i've ever been at saving money and not spending lavishly. my blood pressure every time I look at a $60 receipt for burritos & cocktails is trying to convince me otherwise

    a frustrating version of the hedonic treadmill is when you adapt to positive lifestyle changes (sticking to a budget, drinking less, etc.) and just end up stressed out instead

    Compiling my list of public art sources and I forgot about this gem: NY Public Library has 1000s of restaurant menus, searchable by decade, going back to the 1800's Includes airline menus from 1980s when the food options look much nicer.

    Small Is Beautiful (E. F. Schumacher) i agreed with nearly everything espoused in this book and still found it pretty tiresome, probably because the most salient arguments have found their way to more interesting prose
