For my SF/NY followers... Barry’s Bootcamp treadmills top out at 12.5 mph. Eliud Kipchoge maintained a 13.1 mph average speed for two straight hours, no break.

Elite runners’ marathon pace is YOUR sprint. Not their sprint. https://twitter.com/drsepah/status/1105978826373226496?s=21 …https://twitter.com/DrSepah/status/1105978826373226496 …

No, marathon winners are absolutely not sprinting the entire race. Contenders are running an endurance pace, judiciously making anaerobic efforts only when necessary. Winners know sprinting takes a huge toll.
-
Your point of reference is way off, probably because you’re already in the elite category. Running at 13.1mph for more than 60 seconds is what normal mortals call sprinting.

Nah, it's the Tour de France. You get to rest each night. Every day is a different challenge. The team works together to win.

> “It’s a marathon, not a sprint” is a well-worn cliché, but it’s striking how often it’s invoked to rationalize comfort as opposed to promoting sustained excellence. Always liked this quote from here:https://shyamsankar.com/the-case-against-work-life-balance-owning-your-future …

If the top marathon runners were sprinting the whole time, they would finish the marathon in about 1.1 hours (given that the record for the 100-meter sprint is 9.58 seconds).
