The data is mostly inaccurate However, the basic rationale would be they deliver more video than anyone has ever before DirecTV "spends" 25B a year in programming etc

Imagine what it takes to greenlight $18B of investment decisions at netflix. Most of the time these aren’t huge bets. It must be a bunch of relatively small bets being placed by a lot of very junior people. Can probably greenlight a show two years out of college...manager level!

Netflix current valuation: $150b A few years from now, they either are still the dominant streaming platform (valuation probably closer to $300b), or they are not ( closer to $0 ). It's existential for them, so they max out their spend on content and marketing.
