I worked in the House during this period for Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) on this very issue. @justinamash is correct on all counts. Years earlier, Pelosi insisted the House Democratic Caucus support the bill containing #FISA702 which Holt voted against. Proof that bi-partisanship these days seems to come about exclusively at the expense of our liberty and privacy. Or it serves to enable the State’s fiscal malfeasance and endless wars. Other than that, bi-partisanship is great! Bugger is, ‘other than that’, it no longer exists.

So how does anyone ever get anything fixed if they just go along with everything they are already doing? Unless you think Congress is NOT totally dysfunctional, which I guess is an opinion you could hold given the logic you have shown so far.

How can we make Congress a higher functioning body by saying that gaining influence is more important than holding a standard? It sounds like you would rather have him be like everyone else so he is "taken seriously" at the expense of doing the right thing.
