Witness the hypocrisy that our two-party system breeds: Check out these similar letters warning the president about commencing offensive strikes against Syria without congressional approval. 2013 signers: 119 Rs, 21 Ds 2018 signers: 15 Rs, 73 Ds Very few of us signed both.pic.twitter.com/40VEVtGwnq

There are good reasons why a particular person might not have signed one of the letters: The House membership is different. In addition, a person might not have known about one of them, or might have been sick or away that day, or perhaps had a nuanced but valid objection to one.

But those factors should wash out in the aggregate. The fact that the tallies are so different indicates that something else is at work at the macro level: double standards, selective outrage, and hypocrisy.

The difference was that Obama was the President in 2013. The GOP members of Congress wanted nothing but to go against him. Trump is the President now and GOP is doing everything to kiss his ass. I’m not surprised by those numbers AT ALL.

You are against two party system? The money in politics you call “free speech” makes it so much worse. YOU are the problem.

Um, yours is a dumb argument. Amash wants a govt small enough that money cannot buy any influence. How does that make him part of the problem? BTW, our Founders were against a 2 party system. The diverse views of all Americans cannot be properly represented by just 2 parties.

I don't wanna hear a peep from him about smaller government until he calls for the elimination of the CIA. He's just another politician.

So he can't be for smaller govt unless he gets rid of all the agencies you want? He can't be for reducing some of them first?

While I understand that Congressional sessions must be official, I view the 'need' for members of Congress to be physically present as archaic.

Could you see any value in verified and validated digital signatures? I think making the process of reaching concesus more efficient is a worthy one.

2013 & 2018 Differences •2013: Obama used AUMF to lob a few strikes against the ISIS terrorists. Futile. •2017: POTUS destroyed ISIS. They no longer exist. •2018: Surgical strikes on Assad’s chemical depots after we confirmed he used chlorine gas on citizens. Punitive.

Not on board with your point. Didn't Obama take it to congress in 2013 and at least take that vote into account?

The point wasn’t to attack anyone’s sacred and cherished cow but to illustrate the hypocrisy of congress.
