Thanks. That’s not the only power we have. The Constitution’s Framers gave Congress the power to commence war and the president the power to conduct war. Debates and writings show they intended for the president to take offensive military action only upon congressional approval.

Completely agree that we have had and continue to have executive overreach and extending their authority beyond its limits. The one caveat I wonder is how do we reconcile this w/ possibly losing element of surprise. If it possibly going to cost more US soldiers lives do we

Still say have to wait for official declaration of war? Bc not necessarily regarding this scenario but in a different situation you are essentially telling the enemy you are coming. This is something I’ve not seen the founding fathers ever address. Be interested in your thoughts.

Any conflict we enter into should be due to our being brought into it by outside forces. Either by being attacked or in defending an ally. In both cases there is no element of surprise as the enemy has already begun the conflict. However, we need to discuss our involvement first.

When would we be attacking someone without provocation in which the element of surprise would be available? Even in the case of helping an ally, the enemy would know that is a possibility going into the conflict. In any circumstance I can imagine there would be debate first.

We were never meant to be an aggressor and that is why the constitution is set up the way it is.

That is true. I agree with that
