Let’s be honest, @speaker and the rest of the Congressional Republicans have abdicated all of their responsibility to serve as a coequal branch of govt and check “president” Trump. Tonight is just the latest example

Democrats and republicans alike supported almost an identical strike last April. Fact is, the last 5+ presidents have been doing this. Not a partisan thing.
-
Saying its not a partisan thing doesn't make it true. It IS a partisan thing. Democrats support allowing refugees to come into the United States. We do not support assisted genocide on a country whose citizens are broken down & beaten from war. May God have mercy on your souls.

Chuck Schumer literally just tweeted his support for this strike as wellpic.twitter.com/6MrLbrxWsL

Iraq war vote?
-
We never declared war on Iraq. It was an authorization for use of military force. AUMFs along with the WPA are what's giving the POTUS the leverage to wage these attacks w/o congressional authority.
-
This AUMF from 01 allows congress to avoid responsibility forever?
-
As long as they can somehow tie it to terrorism and the requirements of the aumf, then yes. They can do it forever.

If the President had to wait on congress to authorize strikes, it would be next year before they even began debating on it. I believe the President has to be able to make these decisions. Congress takes far too long to decide on anything.
-
That is the exact reason why it is required. It should take time and thought.
-
You don't sit around and debate while innocents are slaughtered. With your approach by the time anybody did anything all the potential victims would be dead. Reality check Gary
-
Lol. Ok. Everyone will die, so we need to kill more so Assad can’t kill them. Also, are we sure the good guys are better than the bad guys in Syria? There’s your reality check.
-
I love how these "conservatives" care about the Constitution when it comes the second amendment but not when it comes to proper congressional authority in regards to military action
-
I agree with you, but I didn’t see any Democrats protesting Obama waging war all over the Middle East and Africa now did I?
-
I don't care what Democrats did back then. I'm not a Democrat and I've never voted for one.
#whataboutism -
I guess my point is I see a whole lot of selective convenience when people start talking about a Constitution they’ve never read and have no loyalty to.

Only a tyrant takes a nation to war without the consent of it’s people. Impeach!
-
Dang did you scream that when Obama did strikes without congress approval?

The entire world except for syria, north korea and iran is in favor of the end of this brutal oppressive syrian regime. You're on the wrong side of history here Justin.
