We will see how " constitution" you are when trump fires the people investigating his criminal enterprise. I always say this to people " if Obama did (insert what trump did ) republicans would lose their minds

Then Republicans would retort: where were you the last eight years? Mark Levin nailed it when he lamented, "We live in a post-constitutional society." This isn't about Left or Right, it's about right and wrong.

No Paul Ryan is right!! Justin you should understand the office of the Presidency, I learned that in High School
-
Under what authority does the President have that right? I might have gone to a current High School

We're not in war with Rocket Man... Yet
-
Completely agree that Presidents have done this before but that doesn't make it right. I wish Americans understood this, they would understand that President Trump (or any other) can't initiate a war. FDR went to Congress AFTER we were attacked for God's sake
-
"If" War is to be, i'm sure he's advised to get Congressional approval. His Military advisors make that top priority.
-
Each of the branches of government in the last dozen years or so have shirked their responsibilities and obligations. More to the point, with 40% not knowing what Auschwitz was, it's hard to expect them to understand the role of each of the branches

Article 2 Section 2 and the War Powers Resolution among other things (aumf) are what have allowed each of the last 5+ presidents to do exactly this. The last war congress declared was WW2. You're consistent in your opinion, which I respect, but I believe you're wrong in this one.
-
No, that’s not right. Look up the WPA, or read Amash’s previous Tweets on the subject. This action is NOT authorized by the War Powers Act, nor is it covered by any of the previous AUMF’s....unless Assad is a terrorist, attacked us on 9/11, or Syria is now part of Iraq?
-
I was saying that those items were what presidents have used in the past. Push comes to shove, they'll label him a terrorist. There are too many loopholes that give the president too much power. Don't need a war declaration to do a strike.https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/why-obamas-libya-strikes-dont-require-congressional-approval/2011/03/24/AB9nxMQB_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.be3bfaa0ae0b …

I think you’re confusing ability with legality. Can Presidents act unilaterally (and in contravention of their Constitutional limitations)? Of course! That’s the purpose of checks and balances. If citizens ignore their illegal actions, POTUS will continue to do anything they want
-
Bottom line, the only way to prevent the POTUS from doing this is to repeal the WPA and AUMFs and amend the constitution to more clearly define the limitations. Crying "unconstitutional!" Every time a POTUS does something like this doesn't work. We need legislation change.
-
I agree completely on repeal of the AUMF’s. What legislative change would you propose? Article I, Section 8.11 seems pretty straightforward to me.

-
1/ First thing I would do is repeal all AUMFs. For the WPA, repeal it all together or add language to require congressional approval even for limited strikes.
