When you buy more from the grocery store than the grocery store buys from you, you have a trade deficit with the grocery store.

Trade deficits are a feature, not a bug, of a system of voluntary exchange. Only in a (theoretical but not possible) system of total government control and central planning could trade deficits be eliminated—and that would be a world of universal slavery and extreme poverty.

You're using smoke and mirrors. If we send products over and they're taxed but we don't tax their goods, that's bad business.

What will ruin you is China pointing to US territory 120 nuclear missiles that it built out of its trade surpluses.

Bad tax and spending, all right. But how are trade deficits keeping the US afloat?

Respectfully you are conflating free trade (as globalists explain it) with fair trade. When the competition for goods and services are slanted one way - that is not a good example of trade policy. As long as you’re using micro Econ, please use it with the budgets and QE w/fed

No, it doesn't. I wouldn't have a trade deficit with the grocery store if I could grow my own food.

If you are receiving goods that are worth the value of the asset you exchange.. technically it is a balanced trade. Regardless if you have 100$ of Corn or 100$ in pennies. You still have assets worth 100$. That is not deficit comparable.

No, it does not. On one case all trade with each other; in the other not so much. In one case, each creates its own consumption and tax policy; in the other not so much. In one case regulation differentials matter; in the other, not so much. Net-net, applies not so much.

Why years ago could I buy a Samsung VCR for $200 take it back to S. Korea where it was built (no duty) and sell it there for $400?
