The Readable Legislation Act requires every bill to show the changes the bill makes to the full text of existing sections of law the bill repeals or amends.

Without context, provisions to strike text, repeal sections, or insert new language provide little meaningful information about what the bill does.

Requiring that bills reproduce amended sections of law and show how the bill would change them—similar to the “track changes” feature in Microsoft Word—will allow members, staff, and constituents to better understand federal legislation.

The Searchable Legislation Act requires every bill, resolution, and document produced by Congress to be created, transmitted, and published in searchable electronic formats, consistent with recommendations from a congressional data task force the bill codifies.

These new standards will open up the legislative process by increasing access to congressional documents.

This is such a great idea. I know I’ve struggled with this as I’ve read legislation in the past. This will improve the quality of our democracy!!

The Founding Fathers would be rolling in their graves...Do you have any evidence to support the benefits of the transparency you are pushing. Our evidence says that it benefits the NRA.pic.twitter.com/M2jcUo2XRf

The primary author of the Constitution, James Madison, advocated terse, widely intelligible legislation that is easy for the citizenry to examine and digest. Patrick Henry railed against opaque, secretive political processes and procedures as a threat to liberty itself.pic.twitter.com/QcOfLzV7EL

That would make it the first time I consider Patrick Henry to be entirely wrong. And in this case I would side with Hamilton and Madison. Unless of course you are advocating for Big Pharma and the NRA.pic.twitter.com/SCFDLR81ph

Hamilton was a loathsome imperial statist of the highest order. It's a shame he and Burr didn't duel before May of 1787.

Oh right. And Madison had an IQ of 42, correct? I'm guessing you are rooting for the NRA vs the high-school kids. I hear your arming up in Seattle.

I don't live in WA, and yes, I oppose banning semiautomatic guns (that's basically all guns). Where I live police response time is 12-15 minutes, and the average violent crime takes 3 minutes. I'm willing to talk gun bans when someone pulls a teleportation device out of their ass

You brought up the Florida thing, the NRA, and seemed to infer I'm "rooting" for a 'side' that opposes passage of a bill to ban all semiautomatics. Given the hazy nature of your comment, I did have to infer a lot. Feel free to clarify. (Want less inference? Be clear and specific)
