Steel and aluminum tariffs are corporate welfare. They benefit the few through a tax imposed on all Americans.

So you think George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Lincoln, TR, and even Reagan were all wrong, but you, oh wise one, are right? Interesting.

And to answer your question to @justinamash Washington, Hamilton, Roosevelt, Lincoln, & Reagan were wrong. Lincoln is quite possibly the worst president in U.S. history.

Then again, dealing with artificially low priced materials coming from a country that subsidizes it does great damage to our own production of said materials.

Obviously. If it was a simple market matter it would be no big deal, but China does have their thumb on the scale. Not sure it is wise, but the status quo hasn’t been great for American steel companies.

Which accounts for how many jobs? 10’s of thousands? How many jobs will be negatively effected by artificially high steel prices? Millions?

Steel manufacturers were gutted decades ago, mainly due to outsourcing steel. (In some cases because US steel was garbage.) So yes, few people statistically work in mills. There are other places to get steel, not just China. Complicated issue, surely. Timing was shit.

Defending tariffs on the grounds of "national security" is not only incorrect but shameful. It is just a means of maintaining a racket.

Not a liberal/progressive. Try classical liberal, more like our founding fathers. Mind your business and I will mind mine. Tarriff wars will cause the next recession. Have fun cheering that on.

Anyone advocating for government control over the market is giving government more control and asking for the market to fail just like big government always fails. What happened to the free market or does one just like government control for the issues that suit their needs?

Maybe next time don't start name calling off the bat. This is my job. I am a classical liberal. I am a libertarian. I want tiny government. This trade war is going to do the opposite. Progressives stole the label liberal from libertarians.
