Congress passed a budget—months ago. It authorizes way too much spending. Congress is now working to pass an appropriations bill (CR). It spends way too much. This shutdown fight is mostly partisan theater. These parties are working together to massively grow spending and debt.

While I agree too much money is being spent, let's be clear, CONGRESS did NOT pass a budget. The HOUSE passed a budget, the SENATE failed to.

Congress did pass a budget. Senate passed on 10/19/17. House concurred on 10/26/17. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-concurrent-resolution/71/all-info …

Presidents don’t sign budgets. They are concurrent resolutions.

Yeah, OK, I see what you're doing now. The shutdown was about appropriations not "the budget", but you are purposely conflating the two to give the impression the Republicans did their jobs...even though they never passed appropriations for "the budget". SMH

I think you were just confused about how the budget process works. That’s okay. A lot of people are. I didn’t conflate anything. My original tweet separately mentions each process.

I'm not confused about anything. As I noted passing a budget without appropriating it means nothing and is nothing but Kabuki theater. Bravo on your "accomplishment". *eyeroll*

I can understand "disagreeing with a sentiment", but Amash has been pretty transparent on these issues. Had to back him on that.

Cutting taxes is consistent with a limited Government position. He is now advocating for the other half of the equation that makes that work... Reductions in spending.

If you know spending reductions are unlikely to happen, decreasing revenue is irresponsible.

Amash is complaining about spending and the debt. He voted yes on the tax bill knowing that spending wouldn't get cut. That means Amash is dishonest about his concern over the debt.

He's most concerned about the spending. Spending not only increases the debt, it also shifts resources from productive to non-productive uses. So we lose on spending even if that spending is financed by taxes.

I disagree with you. Amash has brought up debt as an issue multiple times, even mentioned bankrupting future generations just a day or so ago. Amash is part of the debt problem with his tax cut votes.

So the best solution is to tax everyone more *and* spend more? Or is it to stand strong on both fronts that you believe in no matter what the rest of the crowd is trying to do (which is still very bad)? I'd rather he stand with his convictions than sway with his party.

What is the problem as defined by Amash? Spending and Debt. The best solution isn’t to increase the debt (Amash’s concern) thru tax cuts knowing spending wouldn’t get cut. Amash’s concerns ring hollow now knowing he added to the problem of debt.
