Some of my colleagues think the #4thAmendment is a relic that should be ignored. This week, they are pushing a bill, #S139, that violates the rights of every American, under the guise of protecting us from “dangers.”

As a former intelligence professional, I believe that our intelligence agencies can do their job of protecting the country from terrorist attacks while staying within the law. That being said, the characterization of our intelligence apparatus by Amash and others are inaccurate.
-
With all due respect, I don't trust this *administrarion* to stay within the law. If they are given more than enough rope, they'll use it. And order the IC to use it, as well.
-
“With all due respect, I think you would totally ignore the targets you were tasked to monitor, and willfully break the law because the president told you to.” Trump can’t even get his own inner circle to do what he wants.
-
You're saying then it's not likely the Intel higher-ups would pass along an illegal order? I asked my son, who's in the miltary, if he would obey such an order. He responded in a similar manner. "WTF? Who do you think I am?" Hey, I don't know your bosses!
-
The intelligence community is made up of men and women just like your son. We're loyal patriots who love our country and respect its laws.
-
I think the difference in our opinions is that an appointee, not career staff, might be more likely to carry out an illegal order because of blind loyalty or unethical reasons. Watergate comes to mind, or Iran-Contra. Although Reagan was shielded by plausible deniability.
-
No, our difference in opinion actually boils down to this. One of us actually knows how the system works, and the other has bought into fear mongering from people like Amash who are misleading people on the mission and capabilities of the IC.
-
No disrespect to
@justinamash, I don't often read his tweets---there's just not enough time in the day. No judgement on his work. That said, I do not "buy in to fear mongering". If I begin to, I check myself and research the reality. You've underestimated me. No need to reply.

Ignoring the 4th Amendment and outright spying on Americans, in America, in most cases w/o a warrant.
I think this would seem to qualify as "burning down the government"! It's also deconstruction of the administrative state.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

NO. Please, please, please modify this to say that if the data/stream is encrypted, then it has protection. Just by blocking America's gov from seeing it, means that we will leave it open to Russia, China, n.k., isis, etc. (Cont)
-
BUT, if you require the data to be encrypted, then, all applications will be updated for streams/storage. At this time, we should have emails, IMs, web pages, etc encrypted, but they are not. (Cont)
-
In addition, we should require uspo to offer up vetted digital key service. Iow, I go to uspo, show them ID, pay them money ( say $20), and then give them my public key, or, they compute a key and keep the public, while giving public/private to citizen. (Cont)
-
By doing this, it allows for secured emails/IMs/etc, but also for vetted payments and emails. This cuts the worms, virus, fishing, etc attacks and helps secure the net.
