@justinamash do you benefit from gerrymandering?

Thanks. Do you support current MI ballot initiative to make redistricting less partisan?

Not sure what you mean by "natural" redistricting, but no doubt the third is a gerrymandered district. W MI = Designed to disperse dem votes
-
An example of a more natural redistricting would be to include all of Kent County in one district.
-
Kent County is narrowly split R vs D, (47/44 in 2016, 53/45 in 2012, 48/49 in 2008) there is nothing "less republican" about MI 3rd district
-
Instead of including all of Kent, the district currently extends south to include Calhoun County. Kent is more Republican than Calhoun.
-
1) Your district was +5 R in 2016 presidential vs Kent 2) your district includes Barry and Ionia ctys which are very red, 3) Kent > Calhoun
-
Why don't you just admit you are the product of a gerrymandered district, created in order to dilute democratic votes in West Michigan.
-
It was gerrymandered—to make it less compact and less Republican than before. Portions of Kent County were replaced with Calhoun County.
-
You keep changing your argument 1st it was statistical. Then it was natural. Now it is geographical. Every argument fails.

b.s. dividing the greater grand rapids area disadvantages dems and minority voting groups.
-
I represent the entire city of Grand Rapids. Surrounding areas are substantially more Republican. Several were carved out of the district.
-
Like Wyoming and Kentwood?
-
Yes, among others. Those areas were removed from the district in 2012, making the district less Republican than before.
-
Technically, Wyoming has doubled the % of both Black and Latino voters since 2000. The white pop. has dropped by almost 20%.

If not from a statistical standpoint how do you benefit?
-
I've enjoyed representing more Democrats than before b/c it gives me new opportunities to show there's an alternative to partisan nonsense.
-
While that sounds good can you provide examples where it changed your vote?

Regardless of your party affiliation, I think you're doing a fine job, and I don't say that to just anyone.

They also cut
@justinamash hometown out of his district bc of party politics. Thoughts on the@NotPoliticians ballot initiative as a fix? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Then it should be in your best interest to do a "natural redistrict."
