As much as I appreciate the pure angle of thought and morality my dear friend, I believe to tie the POTUS down with cong. approval is wrong.

Framers of Constitution wrote Art. I, §8.11, precisely to tie down POTUS w/ congr'l approval. One person shouldn't conduct AND commence war.

They also owe it to the Constitution. Doesn't Trump need Congressional approval before going to war in Syria? Not that he or the GOP care.
-
Did you care whether or not Obama had Congressional approval to engage air assets in Syria / bomb Assad?
-
They rarely did except by accident
-
Yea, they are clueless to the fact that we are currently mostly continuing Obama policy in Syria.
-
I think it's great when Conservatives defend Obama's policies, but in this case he too should have sought congressional approval.
#clueless -
I am not defending his policy, it was a legitimate question. I happen to agree that we need a more clearly defined Syria strategy.

The military's commander in chief is AWOL. Handing over troop levels to the Pentagon, and now this in Syria. Who is running the show here?

For years I've wondered when it was that Congress gave up sole authority to comence military actions. When is a war not a War?
-
It started with the "police action" in Korea fought under U.N. (not U.S.) auspices. Look at how well that turned out...not!

Who should the US declare war on in Syria? If ISIS, should we limit war to there? What about AQ 3.0, the next ISIS? "Missions always creep."
-
I don't know if any of the AUMFs for the war on terror apply to a regular sovereign government as in Syria. I loathe these half-wars.
-
Agreed. FWIW, I believe declaring War on Terror-Designated Islamists is needed update to 2001 AUMF. It is early days in this long war.
-
This isn't a war it's a cash register. Massacring civilians is not war

If you think evil ideologues and ruthless tyrants can be defeated on the cheap, see 1939 Poland's war on horseback against Nazi blitzkrieg.
