Inefficiency is a "tax" for sure. But you have to count American unemployment in that calculation too.

I disagree with Adams (and Trump), but you and Boudreaux are missing his narrow point.

I understand his point, and it's incorrect to suggest that it's not a tax on consumers if no companies move. @ScottAdamsSays

OK...but it's more like "threat" causing higher prices. By saying "still a tax" I thought you missed his point.

My point is that the existence of a tariff increases prices even if no companies move. Govt action causes it, hence tax.

would it be more fair to say the tariff would prevent prices from dropping, rather than increasing current prices?

tariff would make prices rise. Companies will pass off cost to consumer

but best argument for tariffs, is that more jobs and higher wages (more $$$ for ppl) will lead to more consumer spending

why would this lead to widespread inflation? Fed is about to decrease money supply

Yes, and the resulting higher interest rates will slow down growth. More inflation -> even further reduced money supply

if it slows down growth, why would there be more inflation?? Inflation occurs more when growth in economy is large
