Consistent with my oath to support and defend the Constitution, I must oppose this nuclear deal. https://www.facebook.com/repjustinamash/posts/948120658560674 …

@justinamash I read your explanation, but I feel kind of unsatisfied by it. Not sure why you're for sanctions either.

@LucyStag There's nothing inherently "libertarian" about "making a deal." The provisions matter, and my oath is to uphold the Constitution.

@justinamash No, there isn't. But avoiding war is libertarian. I the neocons are screeching about the deal, that bodes well for it.

@LucyStag I don't support war, but libertarian representatives must operate within our constitutional system, too. Ends don't justify means.

@LucyStag If you believe your neighbor is a bad actor, you might agree with others not to go to his garage sale or to let him shop at yours.

@justinamash Oh, that's not sanctions at all. That hypothetical has a scale problem, and is also much more voluntary than sanctions.

@LucyStag I agree it's not parallel, but it's instructive. Many "libertarians" make mistake of focusing on outcomes rather than principles.

@justinamash Principles are key, ends matter more. But the Constitution should be used to hold up wars. It can't make them right. Careful.

@LucyStag I'm a Hayekian libertarian. Liberty can't endure if the Rule of Law (in the Hayekian sense) is rejected. Ends never justify means.

@justinamash War is the most important issue (followed by criminal justice) because you can't bring back dead. So ends in antiwar trump all.
