Congress hasn't authorized war against Syria. Unless Pres Obama expects imminent attack on U.S., use of force is unconstitutional & illegal.

@repjustinamash@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia Sec. 1544(b) is (sadly) the operative section, w/a fig leaf check in (c). 60 days>> -
@AlanTonelson@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia That is simply not correct. Every section of WPR must be read in light of sec 1541(c). -
@repjustinamash@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia <<military force w/o a declaration of war or any other Congressional authorization.>> -
@AlanTonelson@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia That text accounts for possibility of defensive intro for natl emergency, i.e., 1541(c)(3). -
@repjustinamash@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia That's an interesting opinion re 1543(a) but I'm not aware of any evidence from the>> -
@AlanTonelson@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia It's the only reading that makes entire text consistent, b/c it doesn't ignore sec 1541(c). -
@repjustinamash@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia Unless we regard 1543 (a) as the statutory authorization referred to in !541 (c). BTW>>

@repjustinamash@anondia If I am wrong then you need to notify Cornell of the errors they have! -
@librab103@anondia There are no errors in what you're linking to. You simply seem to be ignoring sec 1541(c). -
@repjustinamash@anondia Was somebody asking what powers the CIC has? -
@librab103@repjustinamash how does the president extends the war after 60days? That's what I'm getting confused on. -
@anondia@librab103 Pres may take emergency military action to DEFEND United States w/out immediate approval, but he must ultimately get it. -
@repjustinamash dude thank you! Wish I had more representatives able to defend statements on twitter and Facebook.

@repjustinamash@librab103@anondia according to 1544 (b) the President has 60 before termination of use of force unless extended otherwise -
@tj_cortopassi@librab103@anondia Sec 1541(c) lists the only circumstances under which war may be commenced. None are currently present. -
@repjustinamash@librab103@anondia absolutely agree -
@tj_cortopassi@repjustinamash@anondia I agree 100%

@repjustinamash@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia <<required. Any other interpretation is simply inaccurate. -
@repjustinamash@DoubleEagle49@librab103@anondia <<unilateral presidential action is clearly authorized BEFORE any termination>>
