Spreading information others consider wrong, about matters of public concern, is a feature of free speech, not a bug. The point is that ideas thought to be wrong (or outside conventional discourse) can be heard and evaluated. This is how progress happens.

Straw man take. Disinformation is an intentional, malevolent effort to knowingly spread false ideas and propaganda, and it hurts democracy and it hurts freedom of speech.

This is also synonymous with the true definition of science which is to ask questions and continuously iterate upon theories.

If we work off the assumption of many -- that the "general population" is too dumb to discern fact from fiction in the news -- then we are left with a solution that demands a leader decide for everybody fact from fiction. As a parent does a child. Or a master does a slave.
