Why shouldn't people in need get help? Principles? That sounds stupid to me. I do agree the rich and powerful do not need taxpayer funded handouts, however.

It's not that people in need shouldn't get help, it's that government is a lousy way towards that goal. Most often, special interests get to politicians so that it doesn't end up helping those in need but the special interests. Individuals are better at giving to those in need.
-
Yes, go ask you local feudal lord for charity. I'd rather government bloat than subject the impoverished to the whims of the wealthy. They decide to withhold their money one year, and people starve with no safety net.
-
Government is the feudal lord as the little people have little recourse when it comes to lobbying our representatives. The money middle class is forced to give as corporate subsides via taxes could instead be going to helping those in need directly via peer to peer charity.
-
nice sentiment but churches dont even do this this idea demands all to think in an unselfish manner
-
Look at all the organizations Americans give money for charity (251 billion in 2015). And now we it's even easier to give directly via go fund me and crowdfunding. Individuals are more unselfish than those in government and their lobbyists.
-
Gofundme biases towards people who are well connected on social media. Good luck getting a GoFundMe set up when you're homeless and tech illiterate. Using the government removes the bias of the donator. LGBT+ kids are denied access to "Christian" homeless shelters here.
-
Government is a monopoly, which gives me no recourse when the money is misused. You are saying that a few central planners are better at allocating resources that those that are actually members of the community and understand who needs help.

Isn't Chuck Grassley sticking his hand out for some of those dollars? It's not a good look by any stretch. I am sick of footing these farm subsidies, but for members of congress to get some of that money is sickening.

I eagerly await your legislation to repeal Price-Anderson, eliminate patents, especially on pharmaceuticals, and institute market rate royalities for mineral rights on public land.

The free market solution to the problem of American jobs being lost to foreign countries is not tariffs, it is a lower exchange rate for the dollar. A principled free marketer would mention this all the time, but Rep Amash's personal wealth depends a higher exchange rate.
-
Every American's personal wealth, if held in US-based assets, depends on the value of the dollar and its exchange rate with other currencies. I seem to remember Mr. Amash voting several times to Audit the Fed, the institution primarily responsible for the value of the dollar.
-
Wealth is dependent on the value of the dollar to some extent, I am not sure how much. If a stronger economy for workers means a lower exchange rate and a tougher economy for rentiers, I side with the workers. I know which side Amash is on.

Make em go back to using gold and silver, as defined under Article 1 Sec. 8-10 of the US constitution. FIAT paper is the lifeblood of all socialist tyrannies, it is exactly what Marx had in mind, and completely fulfills the 5th plank to the communist manifesto here in the US.pic.twitter.com/GqgVCqQ89u

Overhaul requirements for welfare. ppl able 2 work need 2 B required 2 work. Gov. Needs 2 work w/ them on finding jobs, training, & schedule interviews for them w follow up after interview. No work No welfare. Be fair but tough love
-
Michigan already requires welfare recipients to either work, or attend work training to qualify for aid.https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2018/08/16/michigan-food-assistance-requirements/1009882002/ …
-
They say they do but I see different. There is abuse w/ any gov. program.
-
You would be wrong. My Mom worked for Michigan Works, helping people on welfare get job training so they could get OFF welfare. Welfare, btw, isn’t the ‘free ride’ people seem to think it is. Not even remotely.
-
That's good to hear. Other states are not as progressive in working w/ ppl to lift them out of welfare.
-
Do y'all understand what
@justinamash means when he says "corporate welfare"? -
Corporate welfare is when the govern. Supports or gives Sun city to a private business...or tax incentives
