When there’s some partisan gain, each major party acts like it cares about the #4thAmendment and #privacy. It’s theater for the masses. But when it’s time to pass or block legislation giving the FBI and NSA more power, both parties are eager to pass the bill and sign it into law.

People self-identifing as "independent" doesn't mean they are really independents. They still tend to lean R or D. What being an I means, though, is in closed primaries they don't have a voice. Making primaries "open", however, leaves the primary vulnerable to manipulation.

I don’t lean D or R and keeping primaries closed only protects entrenched interests. Why should my tax dollars support a system in which I can’t participate?

Why should people who aren't members of a party have a say in who that party nominates for office? Why should someone who isn't a member of a party get all the rights and privileges of membership w/o any of the obligations?

Also, are political parties mentioned in the constitution? If not, we shouldn’t be subsidizing them with tax dollars for their partisan primaries.

@justinamash I’ve loved politics since I was a teenager. Been conservative and then libertarian for most of the time. I’ve lost hope along time ago.. please don’t follow your peers and compromise... I enjoy following your fight. Keep up the good work.

Don't compromise?! Governing in a representative democracy is the art of compromise. Governing without compromise is called dictatorship.

Most of what the two parties do is theater for the masses. It is all about pitting one group of supporters against the other to maintain their power. Statesmanship and service to the people are a thing of the past. It's time to bring back the good ole days.

Except the “good ole days” really weren’t. We pine for an era that didn’t exist. Read both the pre-Civil War-era and Cold War-era Congressional debates; they were, maybe, more visceral than today. Yes, we need more civility. Yes, we need more cooperation on decent legislation.

Your attacks on DOJ & FBI have one clear ultimate agenda. And that is to discredit Bob Mueller to help the Con Man in the OvalOffice. Time for America to see the communications of Trump Republicans . They will make PeteStrzok & LisaPage Texts look like a NothingBurger

On S.139 in January, House vote was R 191-45, D 65-119, Senate vote was R 43-7, D 22-27 (counting King and Sanders as Ds.) One party seems to be a lot more eager than the other one to vote for such bills.

While I’m not saying I support the Rs, one thing Obama did do poorly was continue the 4th Amendment violations brought on by the GWB administration, despite pre-election promises to the contrary. The Patriot Act still stands despite a Democrat majority at that time.
