Wow, hard to see how party-line voting isn't just a direct affront to competitive politics, aimed securing incumbent advantage of the two major parties. That’s false. My district was gerrymandered to make it easier for Democrats to win. If the boundaries had not been politically drawn, the district would include all of Kent, and my vote total would increase. Timing is bad. If they switch now, they're screwed in the election and lose their seats, because there's not time to re-file. If they switch immediately after, it looks shady as hell. People usually switch as they retire (thanks, I guess?) or about halfway through their terms.

They could announce “While it’s too late to re-file before the election, we want our constituents to know our intentions now.” But yeah I get that it would have been easier to do a few months ago.

He has explained in the past that he believes it would be dishonest to his voters to switch in office and the realities of the electoral situation would make it virtually impossible for a third party candidate - even him -- to win. I rather have him there even with an R label.
