Many of the allegations against @POTUS are serious and should be taken seriously, especially by members of Congress.

We don’t impeach simply because we dislike a person or disagree with his policies. If you’re unhappy about
@POTUS, then don’t vote for him in 2020. The electoral process should determine who holds the executive power.Show this thread -
Impeachment proceedings are a quasi-legal, quasi-political process reserved for situations that present substantial evidence of egregious wrongdoing by the officeholder.

Impeachment is equivalent to a grand jury indictment. If the House votes to impeach someone, that is not the same as a finding of guilt; it is merely a finding of probable cause that the accused has committed an impeachable offense.

Upon impeachment by the House, the Senate conducts a trial. Only here does the vote represent a finding of guilt. While there is reasonable disagreement about the proper burden of proof, I believe that a very high standard must be met to overturn the results of an election.

I hope that we don’t get to this point, but I think it’s important, given recent news, that members of Congress share their thoughts on this matter with the people they represent.

1/ You may believe that a sitting president should not be criminally prosecuted, but you're part of a Congress that for partisan reasons is refusing to honor its oath of office and do its job to protect against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
-
2/ We now have a president who is an unindicted coconspirator in a federal crime that was undertaken to facilitate his election as president. And Congress still sits on its hands, not a contingency that the Framers well-planned for.
-
3/ In these circumstances, the DOJ guideline against indicting a sitting president may have to give way to the superior imperative to protect the country against a criminal, compromised president whose own actions undermined his legitimacy.

Russia has nothing to do with Trump winning. Trump won because the Democrats had the worst candidate in history. We wanted someone who is proud to be an American. Make America great in your own way.
-
Worst candidate in history won 3 million more votes than Trump. As to the rest, wait and see.
-
Say it with me now, "the president is not elected by popular vote"
-
You missed the point. On purpose?

I wish you Libertarians and federalists would actually READ the Federalists papers instead rely on someone's politically motivated interpretation. No 69 says the President CAN be held legally responsible for hi/he conduct. Read "personal punishment" is Criminally Charged.

Fed no 69: The President of the United States would be an officer elected by the people for four years; the king of Great Britain is a perpetual and hereditary prince. The one would be amenable to personal punishment and disgrace; the person of the other is sacred and inviolable.

You could convince me that this should always be the order of operations. But this assumes MoC are pure of motive enough to put country over party and impeach and convict in the extremely rare event that warrants it. I hope you understand why many of us are skeptical at best.

i bet the Framers of the Constitution never considered an American as publically immoral as DT would even be a consideration for POTUS... let alone rub elbows w RU & mob ties to cheat the election if found illegitimate, hes a squatter, NOT duly elected, thus CAN BE PROSECUTED
-
Actually, they very much did. That's why they created a republic where power would be spread and not concentrated in one individual. That's also why it's so troubling that both Democrats and Republicans continue to increase the power of the executive branch.
-
thats bc only the wealthy are running the govt & steering policy... basically concentrating in one Class that Class/Legislature is working in concert w the Executive hence NOT the Founders vision (sort of
) -
I'd say it's those which seek power :). Sometimes they're wealthy sometimes they seek it so they can be wealthy. But in either case it's the increasing amount of power the government wields that attracts them in the first place.
-
thats a moot point the point is about a republic w equitable representation. thats been slowly eroded w schemes to prevent the avg Amer from voting OR running for office the orig point was the Founders never envision election theft, ousting an illegitimate prez
