Thanks to the people of Michigan’s Third District for blessing me with the awesome responsibility of representing you in Congress these many years. Thanks to my staff for your love, dedication, and integrity—for your commitment to the people we represent and to the Constitution.

So much inequity and harm stems from concentrated power—in government, in corporations, in finance, in communications. I’m working with others to build a Libertarian Party that will dismantle abusive structures, restore and reinforce institutions of liberty, and empower you.

I was once stripped of a committee assignment for voting differently from Paul Ryan on a budget resolution.

No permanent fencing. This is the people’s legislature, and it must remain open and accessible.

The people in centers of power are rigging the system in full view and calling it a “chance to recalibrate.” The rest of us call it corruption. We defeat it through decentralization.

The elites don’t want a free market; they want a controlled market that protects their profiteering and keeps you subdued.

They aren’t legislators; they’re actors. As long as Congress remains highly centralized—with a few people dictating everything—rank-and-file members will continue to focus on theatrics, not legislation.

There are no serious offenses that aren’t already discoverable and punishable under existing laws. When officials say they need a new security law, what they really mean is they want new powers to surveil without a warrant or to impose severe penalties without as much evidence.

Congress and President need to end qualified immunity for prison guards (and all other government officials), as my bill in the 116th Congress would have done.

Partisanship is about attitude, not differences in ideology. We benefit from diversity of thought, the freedom of speech, and an open and respectful deliberation of ideas. That’s how we learn and grow.

On issue after issue, the old parties have failed the people. The Libertarian Party will defend you. We’ll work to end overcriminalization and protect due process, to end unconstitutional surveillance and secure your digital privacy, to end forever wars and support the troops.

We can be for equality in the Armed Forces and against wars. These are not mutually exclusive positions.

We don’t need more criminal laws. We need fewer.

This is a win for equality before the law. Transgender persons should not be prohibited from serving in the Armed Forces on the sole basis of being transgender.

The Libertarian Party is growing faster than ever. As America’s third largest party, we’re ready to take on the two old parties. Our coalition is built around respecting others, embracing differences, protecting rights, promoting justice, and advancing liberty through localism.

Which legislators only vote present? I served in Congress for 10 years and can’t think of even one who voted present on legislation more than a tiny fraction of the time.

Do you want legislators or performance artists? Because members of Congress are pretty sure you want performance artists.

The true test of principles is on a vote with no political upside whatsoever—where you know that casting the principled vote will earn you only scorn while casting the unprincipled vote will go totally unnoticed. It’s doing right when you have an incentive and a pass to do wrong.
