I am a usual ICASSP reviewer and contributor but didn’t attend for few years now. Finally accessibility depends on academia vs industry, country, and we need to preserve diversity

First, one membership should be enough (IEEE). So why even asking for an SPS membership. Why is ICASSP more expensive than NeurIPS / ICML / ICLR / INTERSPEECH? Why isn't the banquet integrated to the price? 145 dollars is way too much. This event is THE networking moment.

During my PhD, my supervisor and I had to think twice because of the high price + full-registration rule; two students are going, the supervisor doesn't know yet; hence the cost optimization was tricky and the students had to basically beg around.

Travelling budget was always enough to cover ICASSP, but it's a "wtf" topic among colleagues each year. It's ridiculously expensive and the "one full registration per paper" rule sounds like a made-up idea to rip people off.

ICASSP costs are far too high. I can go to two conferences or just ICASSP.

For her/his first conf. paper, I feel important to have students accompanied by one supervisor to help them put faces on names, meet people, give advice on how to stroll down posters and talks. Quite expensive at
#ICASSP. Why not a "first student icassp paper+advisor" combo fee?Hvala. Twitter će to iskoristiti za poboljšanje vaše vremenske crte. PoništiPoništi

Accountability & transparency: If you’re charging this much for a conference that does not even follow the scientific gold-standard for peer-reviews, where does the money go? Why should we as authors/scientist support this? We might as well take our money elsewhere.

There's also the question of... How to put it?... What justifies such a high cost? More transparency on how the participants money is used wouldn't hurt.

for sure a lot of money has been spent on convincing the existing members to renew their membership. I have received IEEE promo materials a few times a year. that's a waste of money.
