There is no doubt in my mind that he is going to be charged with first degree assault, a felony, based on what was on the video and the extent of McGier's injuries. And it will be a good charge. Sometimes proving intent to cause "serious physical injury" can be difficult, but...

no decent prosecutor would back away from giving it a go in this case, given the facts as known. Even if Williams manages to persuade a judge or jury to find him G only of 2nd degree assault, a misdemeanor, he is going to end up with a criminal record, IMO.

Thank you to the citizen journalists who recorded this event.

Exactly. They recorded without interfering and solidified the case against Williams.

Probably the best move if he wants to try to get out of this with a conviction of second rather than first degree assault, a felony. He was going to be fired eventually, and this allows him to plead for mercy on basis he found himself unsuited to be a cop, and broke under stress.

Shouldn’t have been an option. His ass should’ve been fired and charged. That was uncalled for and out of line.

Good move. If it was contrition that set him down this path then he now needs to apologize to the man he assaulted, the victim’s family and the witnesses to the assault. Then he needs anger management to help him understand what happened in that moment and accept any charges.

The problem with allowing him to resign is that he gets to keep his law enforcement certification. Which allows him to come to your town and continue to perform in a very unacceptable manner

We deserve policemen who can control their impulses. Watching this tape, we see a cop completely out of control with rage. As a Baltimore City resident, I say this is NOT okay.
