  1. Is it really worthwhile to argue developed countries have 'superior' animal welfare laws without gathering evidence first? We are scientists first.

An interesting pattern found among those who perform at a very high level is that they tend to be much more driven by internal pressures for mastery and continued growth than external pressures to be great. They are the ones pushing themselves, continually, to grow and be better.

Why snakes probably aren’t spreading the new Wuhan virus. One genetic analysis suggests reptilian reservoir — but researchers doubt that the coronavirus could have originated in animals other than birds or mammals.

I'd like to remind everyone that the H1N1 swine flu virus started in North America, and killed 12.5k in the US and 575k worldwide. American pork was considered dirty for years. Glass houses!

My wife and I never baby talk to our kids. We use a series of ultrasonic squeaks and plenty of licking and grooming. My son was weaned at 21 days and has over fifty offspring of his own by now. My daughter's eyes haven't opened yet but she solves the Morris Water Maze 100%.

Every treatment that exists today took decades to identify and develop. Ending research with animals now can destroy hope for patients 50 years from now. Someday, everyone cured will be grateful for the animal heroes who died to save them.

When 80% of your employees were once incarcerated and you shell out 100s of thousands for social services, lawyers, and expunging records. Giving people a second chance is better than making an extra buck as CEO. Thank you! The Company of Second Chances

Fight or flight, turns hair white! A fantastic write-up on a tour de force mouse experiment, confirming our notion that stress leads to greying hair and revealing a direct pathway from acute stress to permanent damage of regenerating cells!

Great paper but definitely missed our work showing that modeling a polygenic disease like AD requires studies in a diverse population of mice. See Neuner et al. 2019. Studying a transgene or mutation on a single background is like studying a single human w/AD over and over again!

Agreed, but the governor's green-lighting of devastating "toll roads to nowhere" and oil drilling in the Apalachicola Basin cancel all of this out to some extent. If those things continue to go through, they will destroy so many species.

Florida is protecting 20,000 acres in the Everglades that was slated for oil production. I did not expect to keep seeing stories like this coming out of this state...But I am and I like it.
