Every Arthurian adaptation fails because it neglects to interrogate the stories the men tell about themselves through the lens of the women - and the reason adaptations shrink from doing this? Is because, if you center the women, the claim to chivalry no longer holds water.

it's set in an ASYLUM, not a brothel; the bordello world is a layer of delusion. there is an attempted rape scene and the implication of constant rape in the background. seriously.

Sucker Punch occurs in 3 different layers of reality and most of the time is set in the brothel. But don't take my opinion. Jut maybe, consider the opinion of the girls who like Sucker Punch. Maybe they who have dove deeper than a hater understand the film better?

Being in a brothel and being auctioned off is a situation you fundamentally can't consent to or not consent to. It's sexual exploitation. If they're locked in a brothel they cannot easily leave, that's a rapefest. Not everyone is as grossed out by that but a lot of us are.

For some people it's empowering to imagine finding tiny slivers of agency in a hugely dangerous and exploitative situation. For others it's like... "So putting female characters in a situation where they're overwhelmingly powerless to resist sexual exploitation was... A Choice."
