I was surprised to learn that the Columbine High community struggled to raise the funds for their memorial by the high school. Remember, these were the days before social media, before GoFundMe.

And today the parents of the students still find it difficult to raise the $15,000 or so they need to maintain the site each year. That money repairs cracked concrete, fixes lights, ensures irrigation, etc. etc.
