Yesterday the capitol was a madhouse. Today it's calm, seemingly back to normal.

We know the Florida Senate proposal will likely include: raising the age to purchase semiautomatic rifles to 21 from 18; introducing a 3-day waiting period to purchase such guns; banning bump stocks; and expanding the power of law enforcement under the Baker Act.

I am hearing that the Florida House bill likely look similar. Senate president Joe Negron says the House version could also include a measure that provides training for teachers who want to arm themselves in school.

Senator Negron: "The concept of having teachers who are trained and have appropriate credentials being armed to protect students — I would support that.”

Important to note that the proposals from Florida lawmakers fall short of the demands being made by many students at Stoneman Douglas, who are calling for a ban on semiautomatic rifles like the one used to kill their classmates.
