Two years ago I wrote about Kim Gervais, a country music fan and mom of two who had been paralyzed in the Las Vegas shooting. She had gone to the show with two of her friends. This weekend I learned that Kim had died while recovering from her injuries.https://nyti.ms/35iQ8aJ
Kim was tough. She ran a business servicing trash compactors. She spent her weekends riding ATVs in the desert, wearing leather gloves and a full-face helmet. When her husband, a sprint car racer, died after a crash, she raised her two girls on her own.
The coroner is performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. If it is connected to her injuries, it will bring the death toll from the shooting to 59 people.
What does this tell us? The shadows of these mass shootings are long. Each attack begins a cascade of injury, debt, loss.
