I made a habit of asking oil and gas workers where they would be if they didn't have jobs in the industry. Some said they'd work in retail. Others said they'd be homeless. Another guy said he thought he'd be in prison.

The narrative underlying the narrative on 112 is that good blue collar jobs are very hard to come by in this country right now, even in a booming state like Colorado. Which is why workers are so concerned about this measure.

That's one of the things that makes this such good reporting--the way it reveals the conflict between environmental concerns and job opportunities. Of course, it doesn't have to be this way--new energy also offers opportunities--but it IS this way today. And both issues matter.
