CDC just got back to me on a request I made for this story. Turns out its researchers do not track suicides among those under 10. But the suicide rate for children 10-14 has nearly doubled since 1999. https://nyti.ms/2MXHk4l

It's a steady upward trend across all demographics in the US. Likely many causes, including more reliable reporting.
CDC does track suicides for all ages, but they are in single digits for young kids -- see attached chart.
